Traveling with Your Vape Devices? Here Are Some Reminders

Traveling with Your Vape Devices? Here Are Some Reminders

Your favorite vape and CBD juice can be excellent sources of comfort when traveling. They can keep you from getting homesick or help you stay calm if you’re anxious about the trip. Here’s the thing, though: vape laws across the world have become stricter. You may have to make a few considerations before packing your gear, so we’ve created a quick guide for you.

Consult the TSA & airline rules.

No matter your destination, there can be strict rules on flying with your vape. It’s always a great idea to consult Transportation Security Administration or TSA rules on bringing vaping devices to an airplane. Also, consult with your airline to ensure you meet the requirements.

The rules can differ from airline to airline, but generally, you must keep your vaping device in a carry-on bag. The authorities can seize it if they see it in your check-in luggage. Since they have batteries, vape pens or vaporizers aren’t allowed in check-in baggage. Their batteries might explode while in the cargo hold due to the decreased air pressure in this area.

Pack your vape juice properly.

Vape juice is allowed on an airplane. You can put it in your carry-on or checked baggage. But like any liquid, it should be stored in containers no larger than 100ml. You can also bring many liquids that can fit in a 950ml carry-on bag, but this counts for all your liquids, including shampoos, creams, and lotions. These are the general rules on packing liquids when flying.

Planning to pack more vape juice in your checked-in luggage? You’re allowed to do so, but the decreased air pressure in the cargo hold could lead to messy spillage. So if you don’t want your favorite e-liquid to wet your clothes, it’s best to keep it in your carry-on bag.

Pack your spare vape batteries compliantly.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has outlined the proper procedures for packing the spare batteries of your vape pens. Here are some rules to keep in mind:

  • Pack all the batteries—including spare ones—in your carry-on bag.
  • Know the size limits. You’re only permitted to fly two grams of lithium per battery for non-rechargeable batteries and less than 100Wh per battery for rechargeable kinds.
  • Only pack enough batteries for personal use. Otherwise, the authorities might question you regarding sale or distribution.
  • Do not travel with damaged batteries.
  • Leave the batteries in their dedicated packaging or put tape over the end terminals.

Leave THC products at home.

THC remains illegal in most countries and in the eyes of US federal law. So even if you’re going on a trip to a state where THC products are legal, you are still subject to federal law during the flight and while in the airports. It’s best to leave your THC vape products at home.

How about CBD vape pens and juices? According to TSA, these products are allowed if you’re flying domestically within the US, granted they contain less than 0.3% THC. Just remember that the same rules apply to all liquids, so don’t bring more than 100ml juice.

If you are unsure of the THC percentage of your CBD vape juice or feel uneasy traveling with CBD, consider purchasing your CBD vape juice in your destination, if possible.

Don’t vape on an airplane.

No airline allows the use of vapes while on a flight. Don’t dare vape while up in the air, as you can be subject to hefty fines ranging from $2000 to $4000. Don’t even think of outsmarting the plane’s security systems. Keep in mind that tampering with the smoke detectors in plane toilets is a federal offense and will incur you to pay a fine of up to $2000.

Also, you can’t charge your vape on an airplane. So make sure to do this before you board your flight if you want your vape to be ready for use as soon as you land at your destination.

Know airport rules before vaping onsite.

Some airports allow travelers to vape, but many still do not. So always check the airport rules or keep an eye out for signage around the terminals. The airport may have designated smoking areas where you can have a vaping session while complying with the local laws.
